I initially misparsed that as meaning that you had split up, and that you didn't want anyone thinking the reason was that you were "out" and he was still in the closet.

A few months ago I went out (*gasp*) without Mr E, someone asked the above, and it really upset me.

I didn't understand why at the time, but realised later that it was due to one night many years ago when three separate people asked me whether it was over between me and my then-current paramour. As it turns out, it was - and I was the last to hear about it.

Dear god, you're not actually living independent lives are you? It's a travesty. Because obviously, any person in a relationship should only be seen out if surgically attached to their partner. Or wearing a small beeping bracelet which is sending their precise co-ordinates to the tracking station their other half maintains.

Heaven forbid people should have their own lives that they *choose* to share with each other, and all the different interests and needs that entails.

I might be feeling a little stroppy today.
