Mar. 13th, 2004 08:37 amSo who else got a 'please delete your livejournal; it's the new fad' comment?
In other news I had a splendid birthday and subsequent celebration, despite several people sucking and not turning up.
The actual day was spent in Brighton, where we went to the Sea Life Centre and trailed round jewellery shops. The Sea Life Centre is in some ways better than London Aquarium, but not so good in others. More tentacles, including different types of octopus and cuttlefish. The octopi were mostly all squashed up and looked like they were cold. There was one big feller who was being active, but sadly he was surrounded by German tourists so we didn't really get to look at him properly. They also had giant Japanese spider crabs which were distressingly large, and can grow up to like three and half metres long. In that area they were playing some nice trad-sounding Japanese music, which I suppose must have been to make them feel at home. They had a big turtle as well, who was happily swimming round and breaking stuff for fun. Sadly, a lot of the tanks were funny shapes, so the view of the creatures was often rather distorted, but the atmosphere was good, sort of like the museum in Shivers for anyone who's played that. One thing that was a bit crap was how they had an area that looked the same set-up as they have in London Aquarium where you can touch the rays, but there was a big sign up saying 'please do not touch the sea creatures', but the rays were very friendly and kept coming up to the surface, so I touched them anyway. Ner.
After this, I managed to find an engagement ring that I actually like, without taking too long about it either. For those who are particularly interested in sparklies, it is 18 karat white gold with a sapphire and some little diamonds and it rocks (no pun intended). Sadly it had to be re-sized and the jeweller had left for the day, so I am waiting for it to be delivered today. Eeeee!
We then met Cliff and Debs for dinner, which was very tasty. Mine of course contained many tentacles. I then proceeded to get incredibly drunk, though I'm not quite sure how that happened, and annoyed Mr Eris on the way home. I am proposing to give him pieces of paper for any future situations that say, 'Are you sure you need any more to drink? Are you not drunk enough already?' and 'You have just spent an hour saying something that should have taken five minutes. Eris is getting cross; shut the fuck up.' He could then show me these as appropriate.
Last night was lots of fun. I gave crabs to people and Lee and Eris played like the best music ever; (Empty)John seemed to be enjoying it as much as me. We especially had fun saying 'fuck' in the obvious gap in the chorus to 'Kill Your Television' which seems very much to be a growing up in Hertfordshire thing, since everyone else always looks at me funny.
Unfortunately I think our flat must smell or something, as no-one wanted to come back to it; not even with the lure of black forest booze milkshake.
But I didn't cry, so you lose.

Date: 2004-03-13 02:29 am (UTC)* Cherries (I have some good frozen ones, but a can of cherry pie filling will do)
* Cherry Brandy or kirsch
* Milk
If feeling particularly decadent, and you can actually be arsed, you can also whack in some melted chocolate as well - it's a pain in the arse to stop it from just solidifying again, though, especially in contact with cold milk.

Date: 2004-03-13 07:41 am (UTC)In return, may I suggest Bailey's milkshakes? Mix one pint of french vanilla ice cream in a blender with as much Bailey's as you can handle.

Yes, I know it sounds a bit like golden shower, but it's named after an actual cocktail, ok? :-)
