In both Internet and Windows Explorer, my menus have disappeared. I have no idea what has caused this. Installing the latest version of IE did not bring them back. (A step taken before I realised that Windows explorer was affected too.)

Can anyone tell me where I can find the ticky box for 'Cause trouble for Mogs'?

Hmm, not sure if I've seen this before or not. Probably your best bet is to go to Windows Update and (re-)apply the latest Service Pack.

I can't do this online ... it's too slow ... but I've spent eight years doing exactly this kind of trouble-shooting, over the phone, in four different languages ... So, I'm kinda pretty good (if not expert) at it now

Thanks for the offer, but over the phone it will really do my head in and probably make me kill my machine besides.I have some pet geeks that don't live too far from me, and I expect I can tempt them over with cake. I just thought I'd see whether anyone had seen this before and know how to sort it out with the minimum of hassle.

Oh, and I don't mind you keeping my number as long as you don't use it for stalking purposes. ;-)

OK ... But if they can't sort it without resorting to a reinstall, gimme a call first to see if I can't resolve it ... You might be surprised to find out how stress-free the telephone-experiene can be with someone who's done it for eight years*

They're probly just turned off. You can turn them back on from the toolbar View menu, which you should still be able to get into via Alt-V

Nuh-uh, I have toolbars! I don't think you even can turn off the menus. Alt-V just gives me the sound I assigned to 'default sound'- not even an error message. Same for Alt-H or anything else on the menus.

It's not something silly, like having chosen the View | Full Screen" option, is it?

Try hitting F11
