London-based help needed

I'm in the middle of setting up the new band as a serious gigging concern, and need to find a couple of places in London. Maybe you have suggestions? I need to find:
a) a cool and yet free/nearly-free practice place to jam in around once a month. Yes, I know I could pay for practice rooms, but I'll only be resorting to that if I can't find a better option. They don't tend to be particularly inspiring places, and can be expensive if you want to arse around all day experimenting. Surely someone lives in a lovely warehouse that they wouldn't mind being periodically invaded by electronic noisemongers?
b) some kind of scrapyard or similar where I can find stuff to make a funky & cheap industrial-stylee V-drum stand. I know a place like this in Brighton, but that's hardly convenient. Any rivetheads got The Knowledge?
